Jomon Cedar in Yakushima Island (Kyushu)

Yakushima Island is national park and approximately 20 percent of the forest is registered as world heritage.
Jomon Cedar is the oldest and biggest among Yaku cedars of thousands years old.
Round-trip 22 km to Jomon Cedar, is the trekking of approximately 10 hours.
 Walk on the tram track at first 8 km.

 Inside the stump of 3,000-years-old Yaku Cedar called Wilson’s Stump.

Daio Cedar, 3,000-years-old Yaku Cedar, had been said to be the biggest Yaku Cedar until Jomon Cedar was found out.

Arrive at Jomon Cedar finally after walking for 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Estimated age of Jomon Cedar is said to be 7,200 years old.

Okonotaki Falls with an 88 m drop.

Senpironotaki Falls streaming down from a giant sheet of 400×200 m granite.

 Nagatahama Beach   From May to July, loggerhead sea turtles coming ashore and laying their eggs on the sandy beach.

Hakodate (Hokkaido)

Hakodate is located at the south of Hokkaido which is the northernmost island of Japan.

Goryokaku is the fort of a star-shaped and western-style completed almost 150 years ago.

Dewa Sanzan Shrine (Yamagata)

Dewa Sanzan is the collective name for the three mountains of Gassan (1984m), Haguro (414m), and Yudono (1504m), located in the middle of Yamagata Prefecture.

Worshipers to Mt.Haguro were cleansed themselves in Harai River in former times.

Five-storied Pagoda    It is designated a national treasure in Japan.

 It's 29m high, the wooden pagoda.

The shrine approach is lined with ancient cedar trees dating back 300 to 500 years.

Dewa Sanzan Shrine (Sanjin Gosaiden) at the top of Mt.Haguro. The largest building with thatched roofs in Japan,  designated important cultural property.

Sanjin Gosaiden has enshrined the deities of the three mountains, Mt. Haguro, Mt. Gassan, and Mt. Yudono.

The thickness of the thatched roof is 2.1m.

Sanshuden, or guest house connected with Sanjin Gosaiden.

Big Bell of Dewa Sanzan Shrine is a big bell in third in Japan.  It's important cultural property.

Kamakura (Kanagawa)

Kamakura is an ancient city which the central govenment of Kamakura Shogunate used to be located.
Great Buddha, symbol of Kamakura.

 Inside of the Great Buddha,  looking up toward the head of Great Buddha.

"Dankazura",  the raised pedestrian pathway, is the approach to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.

 After passing through "San-no-Torii ", a vermilion-colored torii gate, can be reach to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.


Taiko-bashi Bridge    Arched bridge laid at the entrance of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.

After climbing the stone steps, can be reached to "Hongu", the main building of shrine.

Genpei-ike Pond   There are two ponds, Genji pond and Heike pond, just inside the torii gate.

Kenchoji Temple is the first-ranked temple of kamakura Gozan ( Five High-ranked Zen Temples in Kamakura) .
