Hottarakashi Onsen hot spring (Yamanashi)

Hottarakashi Onsen is an outdoor hot spring at approximately 700m above sea level, located in Yamanashi-shi, Yamanashi prefecture.  Mt.Fuji and Kofu basin can be seen from there.
Hottarakashi Onsen has two outdoor baths; 'Kocchi-no-yu' and 'Acchi-no-yu'.

Mt.Fuji can be seen both from the outdoor baths of Acchi-no-yu and Kocchi-no-yu.

There are also a cafe and souvenir shop here.

We enjoyed grape picking at Asunaro-en, a fruit garden in Katsunuma on the way.

Kusatsu Onsen hot spring (Gunma)

Kusatsu Onsen is a well known hot spring resort located in Gunma prefecture.
Yubatake, one of hot spring sources, located at the center of Kusatsu Onsen.

Yu-no-Hana, hot-springs mineral deposits, is produced at Yubatake.

The hot water passing through wooden gutters is finally falling down like this.

Hotel Sekizenkan in Shima Onsen (Gunma)

Shima Onsen is a well-known hot spring resort located in Nakanojo-machi, Gunma prefecture.
Hotel Sekizenkan built in 1691 is Japan's oldest wooden building for a hotel with hot spring.

Sekizenkan has a hot spring source on the riverbed of 100 m upstream of Arayu River which flows under this red bridge.


'Shima' of Shima Onsen means forty thousand.  Its etymology is said to mean that Shima hot spring has medicinal effects to cure forty thousand disease.

Shima Onsen was first designated as a People's Recreation Spa.  It's said to be especially effective for gastro-enteric disorders.

Kawara-no-Yu, a hot spring on riverside.     There is a small park on the roof of the bath house.

Kawara-no-Yu is a public bathhouse situated at the foot of Hagi-bashi bridge on the confluence of Shima River and Arayu River.

Tsurunoyu Onsen, Nyutou Onsenkyo (Akita)

Tsurunoyu Onsen is one of eight hot-spring baths which belong to Nyutou Onsenkyo located near the foot of Mt.Nyutou-san.

Tsurunoyu Onsen is the oldest hot-spring resort among Nyutou Onsenkyo. Its records are said to date back to Genroku, Edo period.

The house with thatched roofs, 'Honjin', is the oldest accomodation from Edo period.

Tsurunoyu Onsen derives its name from the fact that a local hunter saw a crane (“Tsuru” in Japanese) healing its wounds in a hot-spring.

The Honjin is designated a registered tangible cultural property.

Tsurunoyu Onsen has four baths; Shira-yu, Kuro-yu, Nakano-yu and Takino-yu, each with water with a different composition.

Indoor bath 'Kuro-yu'           'Kuro-yu' literally means 'black hot water' in Japanese.

Indoor bath 'Shiro-yu'           'Shiro-yu' literally means 'white hot water' in Japanese.

The poem about Tsurunoyu, 'Tsurunoyu-bojo', is written on the board in front of a water mill.

This is the accommodation which was relocated a discontinued schoolhouse.

The bath of foot "ASHIYU" is installed near the entrance.

Anyone can use ASHIYU for free.

Tokachigawa Onsen Hot Spring (Hokkaido)

Stay in Dai-Ichi Hotel of Tokachigawa Hot Spring in April 2016. 

Dai-Ichi Hotel is a riverside hotel of Tokachi River.
