Dewa Sanzan Shrine (Yamagata)

Dewa Sanzan is the collective name for the three mountains of Gassan (1984m), Haguro (414m), and Yudono (1504m), located in the middle of Yamagata Prefecture.

Worshipers to Mt.Haguro were cleansed themselves in Harai River in former times.

Five-storied Pagoda    It is designated a national treasure in Japan.

 It's 29m high, the wooden pagoda.

The shrine approach is lined with ancient cedar trees dating back 300 to 500 years.

Dewa Sanzan Shrine (Sanjin Gosaiden) at the top of Mt.Haguro. The largest building with thatched roofs in Japan,  designated important cultural property.

Sanjin Gosaiden has enshrined the deities of the three mountains, Mt. Haguro, Mt. Gassan, and Mt. Yudono.

The thickness of the thatched roof is 2.1m.

Sanshuden, or guest house connected with Sanjin Gosaiden.

Big Bell of Dewa Sanzan Shrine is a big bell in third in Japan.  It's important cultural property.
