Shosenkyo (Yamanashi)

Shosenkyo is a gorge located in the north part of Kofu city, Yamanashi prefecture.
It's in the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park and designated as a special place of scenic beauty in Japan.
Senga-taki, Senga Falls at 30 m long  

Senga-taki is one of Japan's best hundred waterfalls.

Kakuenpo, a granite cliff at 180 m high.

Ishi-mon, ishi (stone) mon (gate)    It's a natural arch of granite.

Granite rocks deeply eroded by the river into many oddly-shaped rocks or stones along the gorge.



Shosenkyo is also famous for autumn leaves.





Kage-e-no-mori Art Museum     Shadow pictures and cutout pictures (mainly the works of Seiji Fujishiro) are exhibited.

Myotogi Shrine Hime-no-miya    It's said to be the deity of marriage and conception.

Syogyoku-do garden    It's said that there are nine kinds of gemstones here.

Mokukaseki, petrified wood          The signboard says it's a larch's fossil of 200 million years ago.

Tenko-go-ryujin, A statue of five dragon gods.   The five dragon gods are each for beauty, victory, health, fortune and learning.

Otome-no-izumi, a fountain with a big white crystal at the entrance of the crystal museum 'Crystal Sound'.

Uradome Coast (Tottori)

Uradome Coast is a rias coast of 15km east to west, located in Iwami-cho Tottori prefecture, and belongs to Sanin Kaigan National Park.  It's designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty and also a Natural Monument in Japan.

It's also called 'Matsushima of Sanin' because the scenery with a lot of islets and rocks resembles the Matsushima of the three most scenic spots in Japan.

千貫松島, Sengan-matsushima Rock




This area is said to have transparency up to 25m in depth.

Lake Tazawa (Akita)

Lake Tazawa, located in Senboku city, Akita prefecture, is a roughly circular caldera lake at 20km around, and  the deepest lake at 423m in Japan.

Statue of Tatsuko built in 1968        Tatsuko is a girl name in the local legend.

Kansagu (Ukiki Shrine)

Mount Akita-Komagatake as seen from Lake Tazawa.

Akita-Komagatake is an active volcano at 1,637m high, located near the border between Akita and Iwate prefectures.

Mount Akita-Komagatake is also called as 'Akita-koma'

The lake color changes variously from deep indigo to pale jade color depending on place and time.


The board says that the lake depth of 423m is 174m below sea level and it's also deepest in Japan.

Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine in Yakushima Island (Kyushu)

Yakushima is a circular island about 130 km circumference, having mysterious virgin forests and a diverse range of peculiar ecosystems, is referred to as the Galapagos of East Asia.

Hiryuotoshi Fall      It's the waterfall of 16m flowing down the gap of granite.

The Ravine became famous as Hayao Miyazaki use it as the backdrop for the animated film "Princess Mononoke".


This moss forest is said to have inspired the animated film “Princess Mononoke”.


Yayoisugi Cedar  (over 3,000 years old)
